A taster of our people development initiatives are below:

Planning and away days

The crucial kick-off day for each year. In January the entire agency gets together for a day offsite to look at the goals and objectives for the year and discuss how these can be delivered. Action Plans are then taken forward by teams and individuals.

The longer offsite in June (our AwayDay) is an opportunity for the entire agency to explore how we are doing against the goals and targets for the year. The AwayDay is held away from the office, and can last for between 1 and 3 days. It is a chance for mixing, team building and learning new skills. We’ve been to places as far ranging as Barcelona, Dublin and South Africa. Since 2007 we’ve been using this time to develop community projects in the areas we live and work. Where will we be off to next?


An annual budget is allocated to training needs. Every employee has the chance of submitting his or her requirements on a quarterly basis through the appraisal system. Training for technical and behavioural needs can be either off-site public courses, or private training held on-site. There are also regular training sessions held on site for the company as a whole on a wide range of topics from Project Management to Stress Management. On a less formal basis we hold regular ‘learning lunches‘ whereby individual staff members share their learnings on a chosen subject.

Investors in People

In October 2006 Tamar was awarded the Investor in People Standard, in recognition of its commitment to setting a level of good practice for improving business performance through its people. This award was successfully reviewed in 2009. Investors in People’s aim is to help employers across the UK to develop their businesses by making the most of their most valuable asset – their people.
